Service Description

The Skill Builder Course is where you need to be if you've never touched clay before, or want a recap of the main skills necessary for confidence hand building with clay. The class is capped at 6 participants, ensuring you get plenty of help from the facilitator. Sessions begin with a demonstration of the key skill of the week, followed by a step by step project where you will practice that particular skill & make something beautiful for your home. For example - pinching leading to salt pigs, coils to make a flower vase, and slab building a cup. Sessions may also explore decorative techniques like Nerikomi, decals, and Sgraffito, plus opportunities to experiment with glazing, but the focus on beginner friendly projects will repeat throughout the year, allowing you to learn through repetition. Later in the year, we'll begin to take inspiration from a renowned ceramic or sculptural artists, past and present. We’ve explored figures like Magdalena Odundo, Edmund de Waal, Bernard Leach, and Lucy Rie, introducing participants to new influences and expanding creative perspectives. This approach makes our sessions more than just about making, they’re part of a wider artistic and cultural journey. All materials, tools, and firing costs are included, just bring yourself and an open mind. If you have a specific project in mind, you’re welcome to bring extra tools or materials to experiment with.
