Chryssie Burgess MOMENTS IN TIME

Moment in Time: Felt. Art. Vision.

9 - 21 May 2025 FREE

“There exists a flow to life which has a buoyancy and a sense of ease, whilst still being exciting and stimulating. I seek that flow as a way to live life. Felt-making helps me find it. For me, creativity in any form is about bringing the inner potential out; manifesting into form the still, quiet space within that is always present waiting patiently to be witnessed, experienced and expressed.” - Chryssie Burgess

'Moments in Time' is a celebration of being able to step into the space Burgess identifies and allow the formless to emerge. As a maker Chryssie Burgess is intrigued by the simultaneous excitement and nervousness she experiences when embarking on a felting project. “I never know what exactly is going to take shape, or how my intentions may be invited to shift. The felt-making process has taught me how to let go, and become both the creator and the created, the artisan and the tool.”

Chryssie Burgess first discovered felt making whilst on an embroidery course in 2002. Guided by textile artist and teacher Kate Horner, she was captivated by the transformative potential of wool fibres and has continued to be influenced and inspired by international felt artists such as Annemie Koenen, Wendy Bayle and Vivienne Morpeth. Burgess is passionate about creativity as a tool for self-awareness. To this end she facilitates student-led workshops in her studio at The Storey in Lancaster, and engages actively with local artists and community-based groups. She also channels other aspects of her life through her felt-making practice. Running her own complementary health practice for over 30 years, she helps people understand and foster the relationship between their physical body and their energetic systems. The importance of maintaining this relationship of physical presence and spiritual flow is fundamental to her work.
